About:

This is the official site for downloading the main libraries and updates. The game was started by Eric Audet in 1997 and is still being worked on (it's a gigantic game). The first 5 years, Eric Audet have been doing the upgrades all by himself. In 2002, he has decided to give the game for free. A few people has decided to improve the code and the game. One of them is Tony Lewis that helped improving the library.

BARP LIB version 0.3.3 by Tony Lewis Jan. 31, 2003	This is the latest official version of BARP LIB. With this, you can install the game and it should run easily. Don't forget to download the data.

BARP DATA version 0.3.3 by Tony Lewis Jan. 31, 2003	Maps, NPCs, quest, monsters, etc are created by players called immortals. This file contains some maps, npcs, etc to get started, it will be up to you to create more stuff or to ask your players to create more stuff.

minor fixing 1 by Eric Audet June 15, 2002	Include: chat-v3.cgi, emote-v3.cgi, attack-v3.cgi and showskills-v3.cgi. Added a line feed in attack-v3.cgi and a ; in a javascript in showskills-v3.cgi. It was causing the game to freeze if players were opening skills in a fight. Removed the echo from chat and emote (you don't have to replace these two files if you prefer the echo).

minor fixing 2 by Eric Audet June 15, 2002	Include: playercommand-v3.cgi. In some cases, when players typing a string not part of the commands, no error was displayed.

invisibility fixing by Tony Lewis June 19, 2002	Include: attack-v3.cgi. In some cases, players were getting frozen when fighting invisible.

Questions And Answers:

Question: Is it really free?
Answer: Yes, under the terms of the GNU General Public License.

Question: What are the requirements?
Answer: We have been running it with many types of servers running Apache but it should also work with other webservers allowing perl CGI.

Question: Is there free host that would let me run it for free?
Answer: If you contact Eric Audet, he will be happy to let you run the game on his server for free.

Question: Can I make money with the game?
Answer: Yes. We are asking not to charge to play. But you are allow to ask for donations. (note: giving things in the game in exchange of money is not considered a donation). You can also make money with sponsors.

Question: Can I have my own game and try to get players from other BARP games?
Answer: We ask you not to do that. It's improper. You should use proper ways to promote your game by getting listed in games directory such as mpogd.com or topwebgames.com.
